The Force of Fiction

Journal Article
The Force of Fiction
Nadine Fink
History enjoys remarkable success with the general public. It provides the base material for numerous television series with a wide audience and inspires literary works which are awarded the most prestigious prizes. In fall 2017, Eric Vuillard’s “L’ordre du jour”, which shakes up previous representations of the “Anschluss”, was awared the Priz Goncourt. And Olivier Guez’s “La Disparition de Joseph Mengele” was awarded the Prix Renaudot. Does fiction endanger history?
