Despite heavy efforts by schools, memorial places and different media, research repeatedly replicates that students have problematic imaginations about National Socialism. This Paper argues to seriously deal with these as learning pre-conditions. As an answer to this challenge, different positions of history didactics, conceptual change and neuroscience are reflected. Finally, the results are included in a draft of historical learning unit.
